Often when I talk about my degrees (Anthropology and Gender studies), people don’t understand how they align. Allow me to explain.

Aligning Degrees

University of Victoria – Bachelor of Arts Double Major in Anthropology & Gender studies – Ongoing

I know my mission in life is to advocate for those who are not protected by the law. I am committed to social justice and recognize I do not need a degree to further the cause, but I wish to gain further training.Ā

Gender Studies

I chose Gender Studies not just because it is interesting to me, but because I think it is the vehicle for me to achieve my vision on its highest scale.

Interestingly, I feel I can say Anthropology has taught me how to procedurally study cultures and people, whereas Gender Studies has given me the cultural sensitivity training that is required for the jobs at hand.

There are broadly recognized efforts to ā€˜decolonize’ the discipline of anthropology, but I feel Gender Studies has best prepared me to challenge certain ideas within myself and how to address structural issues, or how to uplift a team to a higher standard.

Anthropology

Anthropology

I never expected to thrive in the sciences, but when I returned to university as a more mature student, I discovered a surprising passion—and talent—for anthropology. I enrolled in courses I once found intimidating and not only enjoyed them, but excelled, consistently earning at least a B (70%) or higher.

Applied Anthropology
This course introduced practical ways to apply anthropological methods and thinking to real-world contexts such as public policy, environmental assessments, Indigenous law/rights, heritage resource management, food security, and corporate social accountability.

Osteology
In this intensive course on the human skeletal and muscular systems, I gained hands-on lab experience working with human remains (ancestors of undisclosed origin), completed bell-ringer style exams, and conducted research on human morphology. My final project examined the original Obstetric Dilemma Hypothesis and newer theories related to bipedalism.

Archaeology of the Northwest Coast
This course provided an overview of the environmental, cultural, and archaeological diversity of British Columbia. I particularly appreciated learning about Indigenous lifeways before colonization and how this region fits into larger narratives about human history.

I have also completed a forensics field school and am enrolled in a dedicated archaeological field school for summer 2025. For more details, please see the “Skills” page.

Legal Office Assistant

Camosun College – Certificate Completed April 2021

I completed the Legal Office Administration program at Camosun College, where I gained practical skills in drafting documents, managing case files, and understanding legal procedures across areas like family, real estate, civil, and business law.

The program also included training in basic accounting and technical tools like Microsoft Word, Excel, Query, and Adobe which prepared me to thrive in fast-paced legal office environments.
