I acknowledge and give thanks to the Lək̓ʷəŋən-speaking peoples on whose traditional territory I live and work, and to the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ Nations whose relationships with these lands continue to this day.
I acknowledge that the arrival of my family, like many others, has contributed to the ongoing colonial presence here. I am afforded both white and settler privilege, and I understand how these intersecting identities have shaped my experience while disadvantaging others. This awareness informs my approach to future research and fieldwork. I aim to honour Indigenous sovereignty by choosing practices that support decolonization.
I am committed to working in solidarity with Indigenous communities and to making space for Indigenous voices, histories, and laws to be centered in the work I do. I vow to show up as an ally and not identify myself as a part of or adjacent to any community unless it is appropriate to do so.
